South Korean scientists are leading a revolution in pee-powered fuel cells that generate “clean” energy and purify wastewater.

A common organic molecule in fertilizer and a principle component of human urine, scientists achieved state-of-the-art performance using urea fuel cells—built with inexpensive electrodes and without precious metals.

Direct urea fuel cells (DUFC) could turn any wastewater treatment plant into a renewable power station thanks to the development from the Korea Maritime and Ocean University.

These flexible energy generators offer novel and unique ways to equip a house, a town, or a parish with renewable electricity that cuts down on the footprint and upkeep of other infrastructures.

Utilizing a nickel and selenium anode and nickel microfoam, Professor Kyu-Jung Chae found inexpensive metal components to act as the catalyst in the DUFC, facilitating critical chemical reactions that allow it to work, which up until now had been made only with precious metals like platinum.

Assalamualaikum..

Hi Aisyah!

Nice to meet you! My name is Sarah and I’m fifteen. I live in London with my mom, my little brother Umar and my cat, Moza. We live in a small house in Greenwich. It’s got three bedrooms and a small garden. I live near my school so I walk to school every day. I like school and my favorite subjects are Math and ICT. I want to work with computers when I leave school. What about you? What subjects do you like at school? I enjoy playing hockey and I’m in the school hockey team. Last week we won a match and I scored a goal! My best friends are Fatimah and Khodijah, we're in the same class. Our teacher Mrs. Asiah is nice, but sometimes she gives us lots of homework. After school I often go to a café with my friends. The café has got Wi-Fi so we can chat online and then usually we go home to do our homework. At the weekend I sometimes join in hockey matches and I often go roller skating in the park. I’m good at roller-skating and I can go very fast and sometimes I skate when I take my cat for a walk!

Write soon and tell me all about yourself, your friends and your family.

Best wishes

Sarah

This chart shows the results of a survey in which people aged 16 and over were asked about their preferred devices for accessing the internet. The question referred to going online at home and in other places. Participants mentioned four main devices in their answers: a smartphone, a laptop, a tablet and a desktop computer.

From the pie chart it is clear that the ,majority of participants prefer to use smartphones and laptops, with just three per cent difference between the two. Nearly a third of participants prefer to go online with a smartphone. Thirty per cent like to use a laptop. A desktop computer accounts for fourteen per cent of users’ preferred devices. Only a small minority prefer a device other than these main four.

In conclusion, since mobile and portable devices are the most popular choices, it is clear that many participants are accessing the internet outside their homes. The desktop computer is the least popular of the four main devices. In future, we can probably expect to see more and more people accessing the internet with smartphones as their preferred choice.

In Australia there are three levels of governments, the federal government, state governments and local governments. All of these levels of government are necessary. This is so for number of reasons. First, the federal government is necessary for the big things. They keep the economy in order and look after like defence. Similarly, the state governments look after the middle-sized things. For example, they look after law and order, preventing things like vandalism in school. Finally, local government look after the small things. They look after things like collecting rubbish, otherwise everyone would have disease. Thus, for the reason above, we can conclude that the three levels of the government are necessary.
